Connecting ChatGPT
ChatGPT connects to nQuest through a custom connector. Setting one up takes more steps than Claude or Grok, which connect by pasting in a server URL, so this page walks through the whole process.
Before you start, copy your nQuest server URL. Open Preferences (macOS) or Settings (Windows) in the nQuest desktop app, go to the MCP tab, and copy the Server URL.
Step 1: Open ChatGPT settings
Section titled “Step 1: Open ChatGPT settings”In ChatGPT, select your account at the bottom of the left sidebar, then choose Settings.

Step 2: Turn on developer mode
Section titled “Step 2: Turn on developer mode”In Settings, go to Security and login and turn on Developer mode.

ChatGPT marks this setting as elevated risk, because it lets you add connectors that OpenAI has not reviewed. The warning is about what a connector is capable of in general: nQuest itself is read-only over MCP and cannot change your cases. Developer mode stays on for your whole account though, so it applies to any other connector you add later.
Step 3: Start a new plugin
Section titled “Step 3: Start a new plugin”Go to Plugins in the left sidebar. This is the Plugins screen, not the Plugins section of Settings.

Step 4: Fill in the plugin details

Then tick I understand and want to continue and select Create.
The description is optional, but it is worth entering. ChatGPT uses it to decide when to reach for nQuest, so leaving it blank makes the plugin less likely to be used when it would help.
Step 5: Sign in to nQuest
Section titled “Step 5: Sign in to nQuest”Select Sign in with nQuest.

Sign in with your nQuest account, the same way you sign in to the desktop app.

nQuest then asks what you are granting. Select Authorize.

Once you authorize, ChatGPT is connected. You will not be asked again unless you revoke access or the connection expires.
Step 6: Check it works
Section titled “Step 6: Check it works”Start a new chat and ask ChatGPT whether it can see your nQuest plugin. It should confirm the connection and describe the tools it can reach, such as searching cases and reading documents.
You do not need to enable the plugin in each conversation. ChatGPT uses it on its own when a question calls for your case data.
Finding the plugin again
Section titled “Finding the plugin again”Your plugin does not appear in the main Plugins list, which shows the ones ChatGPT publishes. Go to Plugins, switch the filter from Public to Personal, and it appears under Created by me.

From the … menu there you can open a chat with it, manage it, or uninstall it.
Managing the connection
Section titled “Managing the connection”To disconnect ChatGPT, open the MCP tab in nQuest Preferences and revoke it there. ChatGPT has to sign in again before it can reach your data.
Reconnecting after revoking
Section titled “Reconnecting after revoking”Revoking does not remove the plugin from ChatGPT, so it stays in your list and simply stops working. To reconnect, choose Manage from the plugin’s … menu and select Connect beside Connection.
